BEST – CFES Event on Education (Joint EoE)

Vision for the Joint EoE

To provide a forum for European and Canadian Students, Professors, Deans and Industry Representatives to gather, discuss and distribute knowledge on specific themes of concern for engineering students in the field of education.

Objectives

The following objectives are based on the core ideas outlined by the CFES strategic plan for the
2008-2009 year:

  1. Excitement: To expose CFES member students to Events on Education (EoE) with and generate excitement about organizing EoEs in Canada
  2. Infrastructure: To provide a medium for idea and cultural exchange between Canadian and European Engineering students and to enhance the academic relationship between CFES and BEST
  3. Resources: To have a diverse range of participants and a balance between the role of professional, academic and industry representatives.
  4. Process: To organize a sustainable event by ensuring there is an effective system for the CFES to retain knowledge and by ensuring the funding sources are diverse.

Event on Education

BEST has a very active Educational Committee (EduCo) which runs Events on Education (EoEs). EoE's are BEST events where students gather to discuss common issues and priorities important to European Engineering Educational System. Two types of such events exist: BEST Symposium on Education (Symposium) and BEST Academics and Companies Forum (BACo). The sum of these events and all the related activities constitutes the Educational Programme. Through the Educational Programme, BEST is involved in facilitating discussions in educational matters and transferring the results to other interested parties. BEST therefore organizes Symposia and BACos with the participation of the main stakeholders in education. EoEs increase students' awareness of educational issues by letting them discuss those topics among themselves and with their natural counterparts in academics and industry.

Project Scope

The Joint EoE will be held in 2009 in a Local BEST Group (LBG) in Europe and our BEST counterparts are currently looking into finding an LBG to run this event. The LBG is responsible for organizing the logistics of the event (i.e. accommodation, food, classrooms/working rooms, transportation, social activities).

The CFES will work with the BEST Educational Committee to choose main themes, invite speakers
(academics, company representatives and others), facilitate the discussions during the event and
other activities including prepare the schedule, writing the topic introductions to be distributed among the participating students and writing the report of the outcomes of the event.
